Corio and TotalEnergies Support the Production of ChildFund Korea's Environmental Education Kit

Jul. 18 2022

•        Corio and TotalEnergies, which are promoting offshore wind projects in Korea, support the production of ‘Bag to the Green,’ ChildFund Korea’s environmental education kit.•        ‘Bag to the Green’ is a board game that teaches how to sort and recycle trash through fun games, with its upcycled materials adding environmental significance to the game.•        The kit will be used as an environmental education material for children at community children centers and social welfare centers in Ulsan and South Jeolla Province.•        Choi Woo-jin, Head of Corio Generation Korea, says, “I am delighted to be able to provide children with opportunities to take an easy and fun environmental education, and we will continue cooperating with the local community for the healthy growth of and a bright future for children.”   2022. 7. 18 – Corio Generation, Green Investment Group’s new specialist offshore wind business, and TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company, announced on July 18 that they sponsored the production of ‘Bag to the Green,’ ChildFund Korea’s environmental education kit.   As part of their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts to pursue a sustainable environment and co-prosperity with local communities, Corio and TotalEnergies, which are jointly developing offshore wind projects in Ulsan City and Geomundo and Maenggoldo islands in South Jeolla Province, sponsored the production of the kit to provide an opportunity to the future generation of children to recognize and experience the importance of recycling resources and protecting the environment.   ChildFund Korea’s 'Bag to the Green' is an educational board game to teach children how to sort and recycle trash by adjusting the process to elementary school students’ level. The kit also holds environmental significance in that it is made of upcycled materials. It consists of a reusable bag along with a game board, playing cards, dice, game pieces, and instructions. The kit allows kids to easily learn how to sort and recycle items that are commonly seen and used in daily life, which can be quite difficult for them to learn, while enjoying a game with family and friends.   The board of the 'Bag to the Green' is designed as a mat made of upcycled fabric printed with spaces that game pieces can move on. Accordingly, it can be used as a board for a game, and also as a mat in daily lives, letting people make better use of it. In addition, with a focus on environmental and social values, the kit includes a reusable bag that would help children voluntarily conduct plogging (collecting garbage from the ground or beach) anytime, anywhere with the bag.   "We came up with the 'Bag to the Green’ environmental education kit while seeking ways to enable children to participate and learn independently, getting out of the traditional way of conveying knowledge through books,” said Choi Un-jeong, Head of ChildFund’s 2nd Seoul Region Branch. “We sincerely thank Corio and TotalEnergies for showing deep interest in kids’ environment-related activities and actively supporting the production of the kit.”   The 'Bag to the Green' kit, produced with the support of Corio and TotalEnergies, will be delivered to child support institutions in Ulsan and Yeosu City and Jindo-gun in South Jeolla Province, including community children centers, group homes, and social welfare centers through ChildFund Korea. The kit will also be used as recycling and upcycling educational material for Ulsan Nam-gu Community Welfare Center’s local environmental activity program ‘Eco Mom! Happy Kids!,’ which was also supported by Corio and TotalEnergies last month.   “As developing an offshore wind farm is a long-term project that lasts more than 30 years in one area, we are paying attention to environmental protection activities to leave a safer and cleaner society for children who will grow up together during that time,” said Choi Woo-jin, Head of Corio Generation Korea, who attended the sponsorship ceremony. “We are delighted to be able to provide children in Ulsan and South Jeolla Province with opportunities through this sponsorship to take easy and fun environmental education in their daily lives. We will continue cooperating with the local community for the healthy growth of and a bright future for children.”   Meanwhile, Corio and TotalEnergies are co-developing more than 2GW of offshore wind farms in Ulsan and Geomundo and Maenggoldo islands in South Jeolla Province. Up to now, the 3 floating offshore wind projects off the coast of Ulsan (project name: Gray Whale I, II, III) and the Geomundo offshore wind project obtained electricity business licenses from the Electricity Regulatory Commission under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.Photo 1) Corio and TotalEnergies support the production of ‘Bag to the Green,’ ChildFund Korea’s environmental education kit. Photo 2) Corio and TotalEnergies support the production of ‘Bag to the Green,’ ChildFund Korea’s environmental education kit.

•        Corio and TotalEnergies join hands with Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification, and its local partner KR to obtain project certification for the floating offshore wind farm in Ulsan.•        Project certification seeks to ensure that the floating offshore wind turbine design, and the consequent specific supplied units are manufactured, transported, installed and operated in compliance with certain requirements and are suitable for the specific site conditions.•        “We will secure the reliability and stability of the floating offshore wind project in Ulsan to ensure that it can be built stably in line with international standards, and furthermore, contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Korea’s offshore wind technology industry,” Corio and TotalEnergies said. July 13, 2022 – Corio Generation(“Corio”), Green Investment Group’s new specialist offshore wind business, and TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company, for the development of offshore wind projects in Korea, announced on July 13 that they have contracted with Bureau Veritas (BV), a world leader in testing, inspection and certification services, and its local partner Korean Register (KR) to achieve project certification of the Ulsan floating offshore wind farm. Project certification is the process of assessing the conformity of a product, system or service with the requirements and characteristics outlined in a standard, specification or regulation. These standards or specifications are published by recognized international bodies such as ISO, IEC, etc. and serve to provide proof that a product, system or service is safe and performs as promised. Unlike the certification of specific systems, such as wind turbines and marine units, certification is not a mandatory administrative requirement, but provides higher credibility by guaranteeing consistency of design and construction in the overall development of the floating offshore wind farm as well as the comprehensive certification of the project. This project certification applies to the floating offshore wind project of the coast of Ulsan. The projects were granted an electricity business license (EBL) by February this year from the Electricity Regulatory Commission under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and have begun the procedure for the preparation of the projects. Corio and TotalEnergies, private developers of this project, are developing a joint project for offshore wind farms with a total capacity of more than 2 gigawatts in Ulsan City and South Jeolla Province (Geomundo and Maenggoldo). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bureau Veritas and Korean Register in March 2022 aimed at cooperation and relations to enhance competences and capacity by sharing of technologies, information and experiences in the field of floating offshore wind farms in the East Sea of Korea. It is expected that the MoU will help improve the industry standard as well as ensure the stable design, construction, and operation of the project by combining the expertise of KR for various knowledge and experience in Korea with BV’s global network and credibility in the testing and certification sector. “We hope that the project certification that we plan to acquire in cooperation with Bureau Veritas and KR will help us carry out the floating offshore wind project in line with domestic and international standards so that we can secure the reliability and stability of the project, and furthermore, contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Korea’s offshore wind technology industry by making the project as an example of best practice,” Corio and TotalEnergies said.   “We are pleased to contribute through the project certification process to enabling floating offshore wind power to become a clean energy with reliability, stability, and growth potential,” KR said. “We will focus our capability on securing a competitive edge that will allow us to lead the global offshore wind power market by actively utilizing the expertise of both companies and thereby successfully carrying out the project certification process.”  Photo 1) Corio and TotalEnergies have contracted with Bureau Veritas and its local partner Korean Register to achieve project certification of the Ulsan floating offshore wind farm.Photo 2) Corio and TotalEnergies have contracted with Bureau Veritas and its local partner Korean Register to achieve project certification of the Ulsan floating offshore wind farm.

GIG and TotalEnergies Sign a MoU with Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industries to Promote Mutual Cooperation and Growth for Ulsan FOSW Project   lUnder the MoU, GIG and TotalEnergies will be a participant in the ‘Ulsan Floating Offshore Wind Developers Committee’; the Committee to be consisting of the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and the five Ulsan floating offshore wind developers lShin Jungwon, Country Chair of TotalEnergies Korea, said: “Ulsan city has a tremendous potential with infrastructure and resources suitable for the floating offshore wind farm development such as unique set of local competencies, extensive shipbuilding know-how …We will work together with partners to make Ulsan grow as one of the prominent regions in the global FOSW markets.”   (December 9, 2021, South Korea) Green Investment Group (GIG), a global leading green energy development and investment company, and TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the 8th with the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UCCI) and the Ulsan floating offshore wind developers to promote mutual cooperation and growth for FOSW projects in Ulsan, and agreed to participate as a member of the ‘Ulsan Floating Offshore Wind Developers Committee.’   The newly organized Ulsan Floating Offshore Wind Developers Committee (the “Committee”) will be consisting of the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UCCI) and the five private developers - Gray Whale Offshore Wind Power (a joint company from GIG and TotalEnergies), Korea Floating Wind Power, Haewoori Offshore Wind, Firefly Floating Offshore Wind, and Munmubaram.   The signing ceremony was attended by Ulsan City Mayor Song Cheol-ho, Chairperson of UCCI Lee Yun-cheol, and the representatives from the five private developers. Through the agreement, the parties have pledged to actively forge cooperative relationship - UCCI plans to support the Committee’s activities, and the private developers will seek ways to foster a supply chain for the floating offshore wind project in Ulsan.   The 1.5GW-sized Ulsan floating offshore wind farm projects (project name: Gray Whale Offshore Wind Power I, II, III), now being developed by GIG and TotalEnergies, are located in public waters about 60km east from Ulsan Port. Once the projects are completed by its third phase, they are expected to make a big contribution to the achievement of ‘2050 Carbon-Neutral City Ulsan,’ the ‘vision of great energy transition’ declared by the city earlier this year. The projects are forecast to produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of 1.6 million households each year as well as to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2.3 million tons annually.   Especially with Gray Whale Offshore Wind Power project having obtained the first EBL for the floating offshore wind project from the Electricity Regulatory Commission at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) last July, followed by Gray Whale 3’s recent EBL obtainment, GIG and TotalEnergies plan to give traction to their projects by actively cooperating with Ulsan’s initiative, to revitalize the regional economy through the localization of supply chain and equipment for the Ulsan FOSW projects. Also, the companies aim to create a new ecosystem for the floating offshore wind industry in Korea by constantly expanding partnerships with heavy industry-related companies in Ulsan’s shipbuilding and offshore plant sector, which have the world’s best technology and experience, and to contribute to the revitalization of local economy and job creation by directly hiring people in Korea for the project. As part of this plan, GIG and TotalEnergies had signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) with UNIST in January 2021 to design and deliver a training program which would develop local expertise in floating offshore wind and further support job creation in the region. The lecture series on the floating offshore wind, scholarships and internship programs had been developed together with UNIST. In addition to that, GIG and TotalEnergies also had signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) for local supply chain and equipment development for the FOSW projects in Ulsan last September with the Ulsan metropolitan city government, the city's regional universities and companies, and the Korea Wind Energy Industry Association (KWEIA).  “As installation and transport take up large portion of the floating offshore wind farm, Ulsan city has a tremendous potential with infrastructure and resources suitable for the floating offshore wind farm development such as unique set of local competencies, extensive shipbuilding know-how,” said Shin Jungwon, Country Chair of TotalEnergies Korea, at the signing ceremony of MOU with UCCI. “TotalEnergies has built a long-established relationship with Korean Shipyard with most of TotalEnergies’ offshore platforms and carriers built at the shipyards in Geoje and Ulsan. Leveraging its experience and strong partnership with Korea’s heavy industry, we will work together with partners to support the local supply chain and to make Ulsan grow as one of the prominent regions in the global FOSW markets.” Photo 1) GIG and TotalEnergies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the 8th with the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UCCI) and the Ulsan floating offshore wind developers.Photo 2) GIG and TotalEnergies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the 8th with the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UCCI) and the Ulsan floating offshore wind developers.
